国产哟哟's Performing Arts Department is turning up the volume with its spring musical, Head Over Heels, running March 28-30 at Mills Theatre, Carr Hall. A high-energy, laugh-filled production, Head Over Heels blends the classic storytelling of Sir Philip Sidney’s The Arcadia with the classic pop anthems of The Go-Go’s, adapted to modern times by James Magruder.

Directed by Robert James Tomasulo, Director of Performing Arts and Musical Activities, Head Over Heels follows the royal family of Arcadia as they embark on a journey to prevent a mysterious prophecy from dooming their kingdom. Along the way—through disguises, deception, and radical self-discovery—they learn that the key to their realm’s survival lies within each of their hearts. Infused with the electric energy of the 1980s, the production features show-stopping choreography by guest artist Rachel Ballasy and vibrant, era-inspired fashion designed by 国产哟哟 alumna Krista Garriepy '17.

For forensic science major Olivia Carey '25, who plays Musidorus the Shepherd Boy, the show’s magic comes from the cast itself. “The great thing about this show is the chemistry we all have,” she says. “It’s such a fun experience putting it together, and the humor really shines through.” Carey, a performer since age three, also has a personal connection to The Go-Go’s: “My favorite song is We Got the Beat—I have some really great memories with it!”

Beyond the 80s spectacle of props, tropes, and classic videos that are part of the show, Head Over Heels offers a powerful message of self-discovery and love in all its forms. Molly Bryant '25 , a psychology major from Granville, MA, plays Pamela and describes the show as one of the most meaningful productions she has been a part of. “I’ve loved theatre my whole life—frankly, I love attention!” she jokes. “But what makes this show really special is how inclusive it is. It brings so many different identities and relationships to light, which is so important.”

Bryant, whose favorite Go-Go’s song is Vacation (“It’s a classic for a reason!”), calls Pamela her favorite role she’s ever played. “It’s such a joy bringing this character to life, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience the energy of this show.”
